An elephant calf tries its utmost to keep up with its mother. In 2012 the wildlife of eastern Botswana suffered at the hands of a merciless drought. Elephants were one of the hardest hit species because of the sheer volume of food and water that they require to survive. The herds needed to travel further and further each day to find enough food and water. It was particularly difficult for calves to keep up and as the drought progressed they became weaker and weaker. It’s a heartbreaking sight to see an elephant calf that has fallen behind to a certain fate.
