Itinerary
Upon arrival in Casablanca you will be met by your driver in a private vehicle and head to your hotel, where you will check-in and rest from your travels. You will head to Hassan II mosque. This is one of the largest mosques in the world and a photographers dream building with unique angles and colours. Loaded with religious and historical significance, it will awe you with its sheer size and incredible architecture. Smell the salty ocean air as you marvel at the exquisite minaret. Inside Hassan II, tours are offered at 9:00, 10:00, 11:00 and 14:00 and last about 45 minutes to an hour (can change with the season).
After breakfast, you will depart Casablanca and travel to Chefchaouen. Along the way you can choose to enjoy a short driving visit to Rabat, the capital city and residence of the King. You will continue the journey along the coast before heading up through the Rif mountains towards your destination of Chefchaouen, the famous blue city of Morocco. Picture a city where almost everything is a cool shade of blue!
This ideal combination of photographic hides, game drives and scenic exploration while learning new photographic techniques makes this expedition one that you will never forget.
After breakfast you will enjoy free time to photograph this "cool" blue town, tucked away in the mountains. This town is a photographer's heaven. Stop for delicious fresh bread and hot mint tea as you tour . Another option is to take a hike in the breezy mountains.
After an early departure you will set off to Fes to visit a local Berber family (Rachid El Hou's home town of Ain Cheggag outside of Fes) where you will have the opportunity to photograph people in a setting carpete with Berber rugs. After your visit with this family you will continue your journey to Fes, the cultural and spiritual capital of Morocco. In the evening you will visit the Ramparts of Fes.
In the morning you will enjoy a photo shoot with a handful of local models in traditional dress . Half the day will be devoted to exploring the walled-in city, or medina, of Fes. While no cars are allowed you will see donkeys in the old city, shops with piles of vibrant spices and storehouses heaped high with hand-woven carpets in every imaginable colour and design. You will hear the call to prayer, reminding the peoplr to carry out their religious duries. This is a chance to see the real Fes. Your guide will be happy to offer information and expanations for the stops you will make. Some of the other places you will visit are the tanneries, the King's Palace and the potters. In the evening you will return to your guesthouse.
After an early breakfast, you will begin your ascent across the Middle Atlas Mountains. Most of the day will be spent winding your way through the beautiful forests, jagged rock faces, and Berber villages as you cross the Atlas Mountains and begin to descend towards the Sahara Desert. Halfway, you will stop for lunch in the town of Midelt, famous for its fossils and rocks. In the afternoon, you will continue on along the Ziz River Valley. The buildings will fade into a dusty pink as you make your way towards the Sahara Desert. Listen as your driver shares his vast knowledge about the landscape and sceneries before you. Depending upon your arrival time at the hotel you could enjoy some sunset pictures over the dunes. Sunrise and sunset at the dunes is well worth the visit.
There are few scenes as timeless as sunrise in the Sahara and this morning is the perfect opportunity to capture just that. Later you will have a 4x4 ride around the dunes and a visit to the Nomadic Berber Villages. Listen to some of the Gnawa music while you get some people photos. Lunch will be in one of these small village locations. In the early afternoon, you will be driven in an SUV across the barren land to the majestic Sahara sand dunes and Tented camp where you will enjoy a 30 minute camel trek and pictures of the camel train with the sunset as a backdrop before returning to the tents for the night.
From the desert, you will take the SUV back to meet up with your driver. Together, you will head towards Skoura. Along the route, you will enjoy a visit to the Dades Gorges before heading to the Palm Groves of Skoura. You will enjoy photogrpahying the ancient Kasbah and traditional mud homes.
After breakfast you will have a stop to visit the luxury resort of Dar Ahlam outside of Ouarzazate. You will continue your journey to Marrakech along the scenic route of the Tich-n-Tichka Pass. Along the way you will enjoy a stop at the traditional Kasbah of Ait BenHaddou. In the evening you will head to the square of the medina, the famous Jemaa el-Fna. This is one of the highlights of Marrakech. Coming alive at night with the local storytellers, entertainers, and mouth-watering barbeque pits, the square is well worth a visit. If you would rather observe, you might enjoy a quiet cup of tea on a terrace overlooking the square.
After breakfast, you will have a guided tour of Marrakech, the southern pearl of Morocco. This city should be on every traveler’s bucket list. You will discover the Palace of the Bahia, Maison de La Photographie, Majorelle Gardens and many other hidden treasures. Lunch will be served in the Medina. The rest of the day you will enjoy Photographing Marrakech on your own.
Today this incredible Morocco Photo Tour comes to an end. You have the choice to either be transferred to the Marrakech airport or drive the 3 hours to Casablanca.
