A black backed jackal stares into my lens at the edge of a waterhole at Mashatu Game Reserve, Botswana. Jackals are highly successful meso predators, they are intelligent and cunning scavengers that thrive in many parts of Africa. They are also persecuted by farmers as they are often blamed for killing livestock like sheep and goats.

The measurements given below are for the longest side of the print.
